Working on the unkown brown city picture has sorta reminded me of this painting, so I've decided to get around to posting it. I am thinking they might be related somehow...
This painting began centered around a dream of a spatially disturbed (upside down twisty) city I had. That turned into the pink spiral and purple blocks in the sky. The huts are something that pop up from time to time as they are fairly simple structures to draw. While driving down a massive interstate I was quite impressed by the height of the streetlights, that feeling inspired the red poles I think. The rest was just scribbling and refining the scribbles into their most apparent forms, followed by implementing a consistentish lighting setup.
If you spread the paint thinly enough on the canvas, it becomes somewhat transparent, this can lead to interesting effects if you do many layers in this way. The red beasty was a pleasing foray into this glazing idea.
Many thanks to certain individuals for the high quality scan....
