repetition

Sometimes I really want to draw, but the thought of drawing what seems like the same thing again seems distasteful. Usually that means not drawing until I can rekindle interest in the same old squiggly mass I tend to produce. This time though, the thought of doing something that bordered on a structured exercise didn't seem wholly unappealing. In fact given the general fuzziness of my mind, something easy and repetitive seemed quite natural. I was trying to explore the possibility that repetition of the same flawed and hasty technique could result in something interesting. This is something comes more easily for me while painting. When painting something that has many identical component parts, a certain process or order of steps becomes apparent, and going through those steps for each component results in a sense of continuity. If done right, and each iteration is properly rotated or perspectivized, the effect can be quite pleasing and easy to achieve.
